Firefighter Entrance Exam

Announcement of Entrance Examination to develop a Firefighters hire list for the City of Sweetwater.

Applications will be accepted through the Texas Workforce Commission office located at 1105 Bell Street Sweetwater, Texas or you may e-mail Lisa Adames at ladames@coswtr.org . All Applications must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on 
October 16, 2017.

A written exam will be conducted on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at 8:30 a.m. at the Sweetwater Police Dept. Training Room located at 400 E. Ave A. Late arrivals will not be admitted. Those who pass the written exam will have further testing in the afternoon.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicant must be 18 years to 35 years of age.
Must be High School graduate or have an equivalent GED.
Driver’s License and satisfactory background driving record.
Must be able to read and write the English language. 
If candidate is not certified by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection Personnel Standards and Education (TCFPPSE), he or she must be eligible for future certification by TCFPPSE.
Preferably possess certification as an EMT-Basic or higher by the Texas Department of Health at time of appointment.  At or before the time of entrance exam, applicants shall provide either (1) an EMT Certificate issued by the Texas Department of Health, or (2) evidence of current enrollment in an EMT course approved by the Texas Department of Health; or
Be certified as a paramedic by the Texas Department of Health Services, or certifiable at time of appointment. PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN TO CANDIDATES WHO ALREADY POSSESS THIS CERTIFICATION. At or before the time of entrance exam, applicants shall provide either (1) a paramedic certificate issued by the Texas Department of Health, or (2) evidence of current enrollment in a paramedic course approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services
If served in the armed forces of the United States and received an honorable discharge, documentation must be produced (D D Form - 214).
Must be physically sound and free from any defect, which may adversely affect his/her performance of duty.

The resulting hire list will remain effective for six months from the date of testing. 

This notice was posted on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at 2:30 P.M. in accordance with Section 143.024 of the Texas Fire and Police Civil Service Law.

Crew Member

Salary

This position is full-time and includes full benefits.
The job grade is 7A and pays $1247.08 semi-monthly.
Working hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Qualifications

Ability to follow oral / written directions
Must possess a High School diploma or GED
Possess a Valid Texas Driver’s License 
Some construction experience preferred such as plumbing, concrete work and be familiar with heavy equipment
Must be able to work safely around trenching and excavation sites and in small confined areas.
Experience with hand tools, power tools, jack hammers, gas power cut off saws
Must be able to be involved on a call out rotation once per month and in addition work overtime and on weekends on short notice
Must be able to bend, stoop, climb in and out of excavation sites several times per day and also walk several miles per day
Must be able to work outside in extreme hot, cold, or wet weather

Mechanic

Salary

This position is full-time and includes full benefits.
The job grade is 13A and pays $3,682.36 per month.
Working hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Qualifications

Ability to follow oral / written directions
Must possess a High School diploma or GED
Possess a Valid Texas Driver’s License 
Must have the ability to diagnose and correct vehicle/equipment defects.
Two or more years of responsible supervised work in automotive repairs required.
Ability to use and read diagnostic equipment to make repairs on computerized systems in vehicles and equipment

Seasonal Parks Worker

Salary

• The positions are part-time
• The job pays $7.50 per hour
• Working hours Monday-Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Qualifications

• Ability to follow oral / written directions
• Ability to identify and correct potential safety hazards
• Skill to operate push mower, tractor-shredder and riding mower as well as rotary tiller, weed eater, chain saw
• Ability to perform work requiring strength and agility in all weather conditions for extended periods of time
